Adebayor doesn’t donate a cent in the fight against corona: “I did not bring in the virus”

Emmanuel Adebayor has not made any friends in his homeland Togo with his most recent statements. The striker in a Facebook Live doesn’t mince his words: he doesn’t donate a cent in the fight against the coronavirus.

Adebayor, 36 in the meantime, can present quite a few nobility letters as a footballer. For example, he played 315 games in the Premier League for Arsenal, Tottenham, Manchester City, and Crystal Palace, and with those four teams, he scored a total of 124 goals.

In between, he also made a transfer to Real Madrid, where he scored eight times in 22 games. Money is, therefore, by no means a problem, as we also learn from a look at his Instagram page where the Togolese show their luxury cars, villas, or other expensive gadgets more than once. But his country, which currently has 88 confirmed cases of Covid-19 and has already seen six people die from the persistent virus, should not count on a penny.

“To those who wonder why I donate nothing, it is very simple: I donate nothing. It’s that simple,” said the striker, in a Facebook Live. “I do what I want, and I eat what I want. If there are people who criticize me for not donating anything in Lomé (the capital of Togo, ed.), So be it,” said Adebayor.

Before the outbreak of the coronavirus, Adebayor played in Paraguay, near Olimpia. Before the lockdown, he returned to his home country to pass his quarantine there, but on his flight, there were stops in France and Benin, and not everyone was satisfied with that. “Some people think I brought the virus into Lomé, but that’s the way it is in our country. It is simply unfortunate.”

Many African countries lack the necessary health care needed to help infected people properly. Other African football greats such as Samuel Eto’o and Didier Drogba have already stepped into the breach in their respective homelands Cameroon and Ivory Coast in the fight against corona, but Adebayor does not care at all.

“You can compare me to Drogba. You can compare me to Eto’o, but unfortunately, I’m not one of the two. I am Emmanuel Sheyi Adebayor, and I will always do what I want,” Emmanuel Adebayor noted.
