Almost 40 people in Tokyo already succumbed to heatwave

In the Japanese capital, Tokyo, at least 39 people have died since the beginning of August as a result of the heatwave affecting the area. According to a report from the Japanese network, NHK says.

In recent weeks it has been constantly 35 degrees or warmer in Japan. In the coming days, the mercury will remain around that temperature throughout the country. At night it hardly cools down in Japanese cities and remains around 30 degrees.

The police advise people to drink plenty of water, stay out of the sun and use air conditioning. Most of the 39 deceased were inside when they were caught in the heat. Only one person switched on the air conditioning.
