At least 15 dead in anti-police violence rallies in Nigeria

In Nigeria, at least 15 people have already been killed in rioting against police violence. It is mainly young people who hit the streets in the big cities in the south and middle belt of the African country.

Nigerian youth have been demonstrating against police violence in their country for a week. This leads to violent confrontations with the security forces. In the metropolis of Lagos, where 20 million people live, thousands of people blocked all main roads on Monday.

Also, in Benin City, the capital of the southern state of Edo and a state with particularly high crime rates, hundreds of protesters took to the streets this morning.

Groups of young people armed with sticks and placards clashed with the policemen. According to Amnesty, at least 15 people have already died in the clashes, including 2 police officers.
