“Chance of brexit is 50-50 when parliament rejects deal from May”

The chance that Britain will leave the European Union will only be 50-50 if the British parliament rejects the Brexit deal of Prime Minister Theresa May. That is what the British Minister of International Trade Liam Fox, who is pro-Brexit, told the Sunday Times.

According to Fox, the Brexit will only be “100 percent certain” when the deal gets support during the vote scheduled for mid-January. On 29 March, Britain would normally leave the EU.

Commissioner for Trade Cecilia Malmström said today in an interview with the German press agency DPA that she expects chaotic situations when Britain leaves the EU without a deal.

Especially in the beginning it will become “very, very complex”, according to Malmström, who emphasizes that even without a deal the EU will “naturally” start negotiations on a trade agreement. “But that will take time”, it sounds. “The British will introduce controls from day one, and we will do so,” says the European Commissioner. Especially in the port of Dover, one of the main transshipment points of the island for trade in goods with the European mainland, the situation would become chaotic.
