China is withdrawing citizens from Italy due to coronavirus

The Chinese government has sent a flight to the Italian city of Milan to retrieve the Chinese from the severely coronavirus-stricken northern Italy. This is reported by the Chinese state broadcaster CCTV.

The plane takes 125 tourists and students back to Wenzhou in Zhejiang Province. All people on board have undergone medical checks.

The virus outbreak started in November last year in the Chinese city of Wuhan, and China remains the worst affected country.

The outbreak appears to be under control there. The center of gravity of the epidemic has now shifted to Europe, with more new infections reported in Italy than in China.
