Coronavirus in Botswana: all parliament in quarantine

The 57 members of the Botswana parliament were quarantined for 14 days after the institution’s nurse tested positive for coronavirus.

The order to quarantine the members was given by the director of health, Malaki Tshipayagae.

The country confirmed on Thursday seven new cases of coronavirus, including the health worker who was on duty during a session of parliament on Wednesday.

President Mokgweetsi Masisi also attended the session during which the deputies decided to extend the state of emergency to six months.

The president recently finished about 14 days after returning from Namibia in March.

The country has been in lockdown for 28 days to prevent the spread of the virus.
