The gold coin was designed by Sindiso Nyoni, who was born in Zimbabwe, a neighboring country of South Africa.

The currency with the effigy of Nelson Mandela should be put in circulation since Friday, July 13 in all the banks of the country.

It describes the key moments in the life of Mandela, in particular education in rural Eastern Cape, as the son of a tribal chief, his imprisonment, which lasted 27 years and the end of apartheid in 1994.

A conference of former US President Barack Obama, scheduled for next week at Mandela Day on July 18th, will be the most important event of this series of events.
