DRC: Multiple registrations and underage in the electoral register, according to CENI

According to statistics presented on Friday, April 6 by Corneille Nangaa, president of the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI), the current electoral register has a total of 40,287,385 voters.

5,381,763 duplicates, that is to say, people who have registered several times, have been written off and 902,290 minors. CENI announces sanctions against its agents who would have participated in the enlistment of minors.

The CENI claimed to have indexed and placed on a red list all its agents who compromised. They will never be employed by CENI again.

Legal proceedings were also announced not only against these agents, but also against voters enlisted more than once. And their names will be transmitted to the prosecutor.

Corneille Nangaa emphasized that the issue of maintaining and consolidating the file is a prerogative of CENI.

He also announced that the statistics released on Friday will undergo residual processing to allow for a reliable file. The registration of Congolese diaspora will join these statistics. Clearly, these numbers will still evolve.

Nangaa also praised the process of enlisting voters adopted in 2017 and 2018. According to him, unlike in 2006 and 2011, the distribution of seats will be based on cleaned statistics.

“At the presentation ceremony of voter registration statistics, Corneille Nangaa, president of Ceni, reviewed the peculiarities of this new electoral register that he considers better than those who served in the 2006 elections and those of 2011.

“CENI is proud of the work done,” he said
