Escalator goes crazy in metro Rome: 20 Russian football fans injured

Twenty Russian football fans were injured this evening when an escalator ran wild in the Repubblica metro station in Rome. CSKA Moscow supporters were on their way to the Champions League game against AS Roma at the Olympic Stadium when the incident happened. It was CSKA’s official fan club that shared the images on Twitter.

According to Italian media, a number of supporters got stuck between the metal plates of the escalator. The Italian newspaper La Repubblica writes again that the escalator would fail after singing and cheering fans started jumping up and down on the steps.
