FBI uses facial recognition to unlock the suspect’s iPhone

American agents forced a man to unlock his iPhone X. They held his device in front of his face, and Face ID facial recognition allowed the detectives to look into the smartphone. As far as we know, it is the first time ever that this has happened.

The FBI investigators could not see everything because the owner had set up passwords, but what they saw was enough to sue him for the possession of child pornography, reports Forbes magazine.

The suspect is a 28-year-old man from the city of Columbus in Ohio. On 10 August, the police searched his home after contacting another ‘abuser’ via the Kik chat app, who was in fact an undercover agent. After unlocking, the agents saw the chats on the phone. There were also chats in which the suspect talked to others about the abuse of children.
