Ghana: School students faint after seeing “ghosts”

20 students from Nungua High School in Accra, Ghana receive treatment at LEKMA Hospital after collapsing at school on Tuesday morning.

Although the school’s explanations of exactly what caused the problem are less explicit, the hospital authorities attributed it to a collective hysteria.

According to a medical specialist, Dr. Joseph Oliver Commey, some of the students said they saw ghosts.

“They rushed to the emergency room with some students who behave abnormally. But we discovered that most of them suffered from hysteria. They said they saw things, some saw ghosts, others saw other students who had died.”

“We can not handle such cases, but have done our best. They are currently very stable and they are waiting to see the clinical psychologist. We saw about 18 students and we see 3 others. At the end of the day, we will hand them over to the school authorities who are still there.”

Meanwhile, the school authorities who accompanied the students to the hospital refused to comment on the case.
