India build wall along slum to look as beautiful as possible for Trump’s visit

India is making a lot of effort to look as beautiful as possible during the visit of US President Donald Trump later this month. The country even has a wall built along a slum, so that the American millionaire is not confronted with the poverty in the country.

The wall comes along a neighborhood in the city of Ahmedabad, where an estimated 800 families are living in poverty.

A high-ranking government official stated that the 400-meter-long fence is being erected for security reasons. The contractor has a different story and says that “the government does not want the slums to be seen”.

“I was asked to build a wall as soon as possible,” said the contractor to Reuters. “Over 150 bricklayers are working around the clock to complete the construction.”

Trump will be in India on the 24th and 25th of February. In a stadium in Ahmedabad, he will attend an event called “Kem Chho Trump” (“How’s it going, Trump?”), similar to the “Howdy Modi” reception that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi received in Houston in September.

From the White House, Trump quoted the Indian Prime Minister on Tuesday. He would have said that “millions and millions of people” would attend the meeting.
