Insult to Kenyan doctors as 100 Cuban doctors reinforce in Kenya

Cuban doctors began arriving in Kenya at the invitation of the Kenyan Ministry of Health. The government says the 100 doctors will help solve the shortage of specialists in the country.

But their presence is disputed by the Kenyan doctors’ union, which says there are still Kenyan doctors trained to hire.

The first 50 Cuban doctors arrived at Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta airport overnight on Tuesday.

The other 50 are expected this Thursday. They will be deployed across the country, especially in hard-to-reach areas where there are few specialists.

The state will pay their salaries while the local government will finance the accommodation and transport.

The government ensures that Cubans will provide needed specialist support and training to their Kenyan counterparts.
