Iranian leader denies any involvement in riot at U.S. Embassy in Baghdad

The Iranian spiritual leader has vehemently refuted accusations made by U.S. President Trump about disturbances in front of the U.S. embassy in Baghdad.

The ayatollah Ali Khamenei tweeted that Trump should understand that the people in the region hate the U.S. because of the U.S. crimes in Iraq and Afghanistan, among others. Khamenei is the most influential figure in his country.

Trump had tweeted that Iran would be behind demonstrations in front of the U.S. embassy in Baghdad. But according to Khamenei, that doesn’t make any sense. If Trump would think logically, he would see it.

Khamenei condemned the latest American airstrikes in Iraq and Syria. The Americans attacked the Shiite militia Kataib Hezbollah supported by Iran on Sunday. Twenty-five people were killed and about fifty wounded.

Protest

In Baghdad on New Year’s Day, demonstrators went to attack the American embassy again. American soldiers in the complex fired tear gas at the demonstrators in response.
