Italian terrorist Battisti arrested in Bolivia

The left-wing terrorist Cesare Battisti, who was on the run for the Brazilian dish, was arrested in Bolivia. This was announced on Friday by an employee of Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro.

In December, Brazilian judges ordered the arrest of the Italian who fled his homeland decades ago and was sentenced in absentia for several murders.

After the issuance of the arrest warrant, Battisti fled from Brazil to Bolivia. “The Italian terrorist Cesare Battisti has been arrested in Bolivia tonight,” wrote Filipe Martins, an adviser to President Bolsonaro on Twitter. He added that the Italian may be transferred to Brazil before he is extradited to Italy, where he has to serve a life sentence.

Battisti stood at the cradle of the radical Italian group of Armed Proletarians for Communism. He was sentenced in absentia in 1993 for four political assassinations in the 1970s. He escaped from an Italian prison in 1981 and fled to France and Mexico before he landed in Brazil in 2004 and settled there permanently. Battisti is now 63 years old and has always maintained his innocence.
