Joyce Banda returned to her country after four years of exile, according to AFP.
The former president of Malawi is paid on Saturday in her country after four years of exile in South Africa.
Joyce Banda’s plane from Johannesburg, South Africa landed on Saturday at midday at Blantyre Airport, the economic capital of Malawi.
Upon arrival, Ms. Banda was greeted by hundreds of supporters singing and wearing the orange colour of her Party for the People (PP).
68-year-old Joyce Banda was the first female president of Malawi, before going into exile in 2014 after her defeat in presidential elections against current President Peter Mutharika.
Ms. Banda’s popularity was tarnished in 2013 by an alleged corruption case called “Cashgate”.
An arrest warrant was issued against her in 2017 by the Malawian police.
The former president is expected to decide Sunday on his political future to one year of parliamentary elections and the presidential election in 2019.
