Kenyan Keitany wins New York marathon for the fourth time

The Kenyan Mary Keitany has won the New York marathon for the fourth time in her career. In the men the Ethiopian Lelisa Desisa drew the longest end.

The 36-year-old Keitany completed the distance in 2:22:48. Her compatriot Vivian Cheruiyot (2:26:02) was second, ahead of the American title defender Shalane Flanagan (2:26:22). It is the fourth victory for Keitany after 2014, 2015 and 2016. Only the Norwegian Grete Waitz did better in the 1970s and 1980 with nine victories.

In the men, the 28-year-old Desisa signed in a time of 2:05:59 for the win. His compatriot Shura Kitata (2:06:01) had to be content with silver, the bronze went to the Kenyan defending champion Geoffrey Kamworor (2:06:26).
