Nigeria: 24 dead after double bombing in Mubi mosque

A double bombing attributed to Boko Haram in a mosque in northeastern Nigeria in Mubi killed at least 24 people, according to local police, but heavier reports were given by witnesses.

Although this double attack has not been claimed for the moment, Mubi, in the state of Adamawa in the north-east of the country, is regularly targeted by Boko Haram. Last November, 50 people died in a previous attack.

“At the moment (the toll of the victims) is 24,” said Othman Abubakar, spokesman for the police of Adamawa State, while rescue workers and hospital sources put forward a much heavier balance sheet up to 48 people killed in this double explosion.

In the early afternoon of Tuesday, at 1.30 pm (local time), a suicide bomber blew himself up in a mosque in Mubi, Adamawa State, then a second, in a nearby market, at the moment when the faithful fled.

The victims were all transferred to different hospitals in the city and surrounding areas.
