Queen Elizabeth doesn’t want gunshots on 94th birthday: “Not appropriate during crisis”

Queen Elizabeth has asked to omit the salute shots on her 94th birthday. The Queen resides in Windsor and has no need for the annual salute shots due to the corona crisis, reports ITV Royal House reporter Chris Ship based on a source in Buckingham Palace.

It is a tradition in the UK to fire salute shots at noon on the Queen’s birthday in London at Tower Bridge and Hyde Park. For the first time in Elizabeth’s 68 years on the throne, this tradition is skipped, and her birthday is celebrated in silence. According to the palace source, this is entirely in line with the Queen’s wishes.

The official celebration of Queen Elizabeth’s birthday, the so-called Trooping the Color, is also not taking place in the traditional form this year.

Due to the outbreak of the new coronavirus, there will be no parade or a balcony scene on June 13, Buckingham Palace, previously reported. There would also be no plans for an alternative celebration.

Elizabeth celebrates her birthday with her husband, Prince Philip, in Windsor. If she’s going to make video calls to other family members, they’ll be private calls.

Her son Prince Charles is in Scotland, and grandson William is in Norfolk with his family. Prince Harry finds himself in their new home town of Los Angeles with Meghan.
