Thursday, April 19, 2019 was the day announced as a decisive day for the Presidential elections of 2019. The draft law on sponsorship carried by the President of the Republic is adopted by a large majority of parliamentarians.

A succession of preliminary questions, scuffles to colour this plenary session and finally 120 voices expressed their agreement for the adoption of the draft law on sponsorship.

As a reminder, this system invites candidates to obtain 65 thousand signatures in 7 different regions with 2000 signatures for each of them. With the amendment proposed by Aymerou Gningue, the signatures can be seen down with 0.8% minimum and 1% maximum.

124 votes were in favor of the adoption of Moustapha Cissé Lo’s proposal for the adoption of the bill on sponsorship. The second vice-chair had asked that there be no debate and that the bill be passed directly.

Referring to article 63, Moustapha Niasse became the police of the debates and in combination of the amendment received from Aymérou Gningue (maximum 1% and 0.8% for each candidate), gave the word to the latter.

Note that opponents such as Sonko, Madické Niang and Aïssata Tall Sall left the room.
