Today is International Nursing Day, What to know!

Today, Tuesday, May 12th, is International Nursing Day. That date refers to the time of the birth of Florence Nightingale, British nurse, and pioneer of modern nursing care. It is the ideal day to pay attention to the vital role of nurses in our society.

Florence Nightingale founded the first school of nurses in 1860. She stressed the importance of the relationship between patient and caregiver, and she was an expert in public health information.

In addition, Florence was confronted with a shortage of materials and a high mortality rate during the Crimean War, just as nurses now are due to the corona crisis.

As part of the Day of Nursing, we would like to highlight how essential nursing care is to the health of us all. There are currently 43.5 million health workers in the world, and it is estimated that 20.7 million are nurses and midwives, according to WHO.

The guarantee of staffing is crucial for the quality of care in many hospitals, care institutions, and patient safety.

As international Nursing day, some Unions have seized this opportunity to call for sound training, liveable working conditions, and correct working conditions.

Nurses are always faced with new challenges, which means that the workload is increasing, and the lack of staff and resources is not being resolved. And nurses would receive the recognition they deserve if such problems were addressed.

We are wishing the nurses all over the world happy International Nursing day!
