Volcano Soputan erupts on Indonesian island of Sulawesi

On the Indonesian island of Sulawesi the volcano Soputan erupted on Sunday morning. Volcanic ash is blown up to three kilometres high, says civil protection. Access is prohibited in a 4 km zone around the volcano.

It is not yet clear whether people have also been injured. The axle is by no means considered dangerous for aviation.

At the beginning of October, the same volcano had already erupted.

The island of Sulawesi, popular with tourists, was also hit by a heavy earthquake that led to a tsunami earlier this year. In addition, more than 2,000 people were killed. The volcano is 900 km from where the deadly earthquake and tsunami took place.
