WHO warns short supply of medical oxygen: “world 620 million liters per day”

The supply of medical oxygen for patients with severe symptoms of Covid-19 is tight, the World Health Organization (WHO) warned on Wednesday. The WHO expects to reach the mark of 10 million infections next week.

WHO boss Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus estimates that there is currently a need for 620,000 cubic meters of oxygen gas or 620 million liters per day. “Demand is currently outstripping supply”.

He also warns that only a few companies account for 80 percent of the market—the WHO has already purchased oxygen gas generating machines for countries where the need is greatest.

At present, more than 9.3 million infections, and more than 476,000 deaths have been reported worldwide

Next week, there are said to be officially 10 million infections. Moreover, the epidemic has not yet peaked on the American continent. The epidemic has been particularly intense in South and Central America, said Michael Ryan, the emergency response officer at the international organization.
