Woman swallows engagement ring during nightmare: “I woke up with an empty finger”

A 29-year-old American woman who, during a terrifying nightmare, dreamed that she had to swallow her engagement ring in a high-speed train to hide the jewelry from robbers on the advice of her future, appears to have actually put the jewel in her mouth asleep. When Jenna Evans from San Diego, California, woke up, she discovered to her dismay an empty finger.

When Evans realized that her engagement ring was gone, she said; she first had to laugh loudly for an hour and a half. She then went to the hospital with her partner to check whether the precious gem was in her esophagus, stomach or intestines. “I actually remember doing it, but I thought I was dreaming,” the woman writes in a hilarious post on Facebook: a message that was shared no less than 54,000 times in a short time and with more than 32,000 responses.

Initially, Evans was not bothered by the ring, but after being diagnosed by doctors, she got pain in her chest and abdomen. “Then it was decided to remove the jewel quickly.” After fiddling for a while, the surgeon managed to grab the ring with pliers. “When I woke up, the ring was still not on my finger,” the already recovered patient looks back. “Apparently I don’t do great with anesthesia because I came out of it hysterically crying and was totally inconsolable.”

But, she says, the positive feeling quickly prevailed again when her husband Bob appeared at her bedside and slipped the ring around her finger. Jenna Evans had to promise her future husband that she will not swallow the ring again. However, she could not give him that guarantee. “We googled ‘do other adults swallow rings “because kids do it all the time, but apparently it’s less common for adults.”

The woman says that she has ‘realistic-looking dreams’ almost every day. To prevent a recurrence, the hospital brought her in contact with a sleep specialist. Whether that will help will be clear. After the incident, the prospective husband of Evans has assured that the marriage will continue anyway. “With or without a ring.”

Evans also writes on Facebook that she drank a glass of water during the nightmare to make it easier to swallow the ring with a large gem. “I popped that sucker off, put it in my mouth and swallowed it with a glass of water right about the time I realized what I was doing. I assumed this too was a dream, because WHO ACTUALLY SWALLOWS THEIR ENGAGEMENT RING, so I went back to sleep.”
