Zorica Rebernik (67), a woman from Bosnia, is obsessed with the color ‘red’. This leads to a remarkable lifestyle, which she also wants to continue in the hereafter.
Zorica, a retired teacher with dyed red hair, lives with her husband Zoran in a red house in Tuzla, in northeastern Bosnia and Herzegovina. There they sit on red seats, they eat from red plates at a red table with red flowers, and they drink from red bags. The seats are also red, just like the fridge and the sheets on their bed. “When I was 18 or 19 years old, I suddenly felt a strong urge to dress in red,” says the woman. “Since then I always wear red and all the decorations in my house must be red.”
The woman says to associate the color with strength and power. Her bizarre obsession has made Zorica a local celebrity in Tuzla. “Everyone knows me here and constantly offers me red gifts.” She would never accept something that is not red, even if it would be costly.
Even when she goes to a funeral, she wears red. According to the woman, the only problem is that her husband never notices when she has new clothes. “I don’t see the difference,” he says. Because Zorica wants to continue her ‘red’ lifestyle in the hereafter, the woman has already had a grave made of red stone for herself and her husband. There are also pictures hanging in red frames.
