Zahran Hashim: “First terrorist attacks on Sri Lanka identified”

Zahran Hashim would be the man who blew himself up at the luxurious Shangri-La hotel in Colombo. 215 people were killed in the attacks on various churches and hotels in Sri Lanka.

According to CNN India, Zahran Hashim would have been involved on 4 April in an attempt to attack the High Commission of India. The broadcaster quotes a source from the security services. It is said that eight people were arrested on suspicion of involvement in the attacks in Sri Lanka, according to the Minister of Defense. Previously there were 7 people.

The police allegedly warned nationwide ten days ago of attacks on important churches. The National Thowheeth Jama’ath (NTJ) is said to have planned the attacks. NTJ is a group of radical Muslims who were held responsible for the destruction of Buddhist images last year.

The US Department of Foreign Affairs warns that more attacks may follow in Sri Lanka. Without warning, the terrorists can strike in tourist areas, public transport or shopping centers, the ministry reports.

“Terrorists are constantly planning new attacks in Sri Lanka,” the US Department said. In eight different attacks yesterday, 290 people died and around 500 people were injured.
